Losing Weight in a Healthy Way

Almost 108 million Americans were overweight or obese in 1999. Even now, obesity continues to be a serious problem and is predicted to reach epidemic levels by the year 2020.

One way to prevent this is to make people aware of the risks of being overweight.

Here are some diseases that you may be at risk of developing if you are carrying too many extra pounds:

1. heart disease
2. stroke
3. diabetes
4. cancer
5. arthritis
6. hypertension

Losing weight helps to prevent and control these diseases.

Many of the quick weight loss methods which have spread like wildfire lately do not provide lasting results. More often than not, dieting methods which involve diet drinks, special foods, and supplements or pills do not consistently work. But when they do, the results are usually temporary.

It is better to rely on a healthy weight loss regimen which will provide lifetime results. You have to set realistic goals and not expect to lose a lot of pounds too quickly. It's best to approach this as a lifestyle change rather than a temporary diet, or as something you have to endure until the goal is reached, and then expect to return to your old ways. If you do that, you will also quickly return to your old weight!
